2FA is a dumpster fire for practical security because of stuff like this. you have to save "backup codes" somewhere, google it.
it makes it harder for someone to bot-hack everything you own if you use the same password everywhere, but much easier to target specific individuals for this reason. people will tend to save the codes in unsecure places because keeping track of cold storage is a pain in the ass, and there's always a risk your cold storage can fail anyway (in which case you're boned).
