I have a coinbase account and a blockchain account (apps rather).

I don't need the money, but would rather put it in something nontraditional rather than blowing it on blow in vegas or something.

you're better off apportioning it roughly in line with the inflation-adjusted market cap of the top 10 cryptocurrencies from https://coinmarketcap.com/all/views/all/

invest roughly in proportion to each coin/token's weight in the aggregate market cap of all 10. for example, 57% should be bitcoin, 22% should be ethereum, 6% should be ripple, etc. recalculate & adjust your hodlings on a weekly or monthly basis, depending on the transaction costs.

Metropolis-Byzantium (scheduled for two weeks from now) doesn't seem to be priced into ethereum yet. It is a reasonable time to get some ethers while you consider your next move.

Thank You.

So, buy ETH with the $2,200 then buy M-B with the ETH?

M-B is an upcoming upgrade to Ethereum. It is a major milestone on its longterm roadmap. I'm expecting prices to increase upon its release. I don't know if M-B will lead to a permanent bump in prices, but my guess is buying soon will be at least a bit cheaper than it will as M-B gets closer.

You can only buy ETH, BTC, and LTC on coinbase

So what you do is deposit your USD from your bank account to coinbase, then buy ETH on coinbase, then transfer the ETH to an exchange like Bittrex and exchange the ETH for whatever shitcoins suit your fancy

The downer about this is that is will probably take a week or more to get your ETH from coinbase, but the price is locked in as soon as you hit buy

Also remember to track your buys and sells and know your cost basis on each trade for tax purposes

tbqf if you want to do this FASTLY you need to wire your funds to coinbase. even then when you buy your eth/btc may not be immediately available (i recently bought litecoin with fiat and was stuck waiting for it for 1 week). gemini is a much better exchange to get your shit turned around quickly.

I'm in no rush. Don't really plan on trading... just want to dump some cash in something and hold it for awhile.
