At first, it seemed normal:

Then, at the bottom, scrawled in shaky handwriting: “Get him.”

I stared at it, heart pounding. Who’s him? Am I him? Looked around, but the cart’s owner was long gone.

Tried to shake it off, but for the rest of the night, every customer felt like they were watching me, like they knew something I didn’t.

Closed up, walked to my car, and found another note on the seat: “Soon, friend.”

Sat in the dark for a long time and whispered, “Yes, friend. This is fine.”
