The key university qualification to gain graduate entry to the Gestapo was a law degree. It became normal for graduate entrants to gain rapid promotions over the heads of older, experienced, but less academically qualified police detectives. Dr Werner Best, head of personnel at the Gestapo HQ, believed the hard-working requirements of a law degree suited the investigative work of the Gestapo, which was why he proactively encouraged the appointment of law graduates to the highest positions within the Gestapo from 1936 onwards.

Some Gestapo officers evidently gained some prurient pleasure from listening to women, usually under the age of forty, discussing these intimate sexual encounters.
