One of the issues we face is that so much of GDP is driven by debt-fueled spending and the myriad transactions associated with the capital it pumps into the system. What started out, presumably, as a failsafe for struggling people has become a beast that needs to be fed or else the broader economy will face consequences.
An economy that is almost entirely driven by rentiers moving money around will allow for an enormous amount of fraud bullshit because it is necessary for the rentier economy to continue functioning. |
