I'm still writing it. Its called Halley's Comet and its about a 9 year old boy in 1986 goes to watch Halley's Comet on a hill in town and hears an old man confessing to comet that he failed it and didn't do anything meaningful with his life. The protagonist makes a promise to the comet that he will not end up like that old man. The protagonist's name is Magnum Opus.
Magnum's mother, who is Norwegian, wanted to name her son Magnus and the father agreed, but the mother went into a coma during delivery and the father, when he was about to write in the "S" on Magnus's birth certificate changed it to an "M" because he thought it would be cooler to name his son after a gun.
