central air is never 100% silent. it still makes a sound as cold air is propelled from the vent. this was silent, with no real force behind the air. like the fog from a fog machine, it just filled the room with coldness in silence. |

You're confused or just wrong. The only way to get a pretty silent A/C is central because the air pump and condenser can be placed far away from the living space. An in-wall/window system will always have the loud mechanical components right by the vent.
My A/C is on now and I don't hear it at all. |

I have one in my house and it's amazing - it just keeps everything cool 24/7 at a constant temp. you don't have to touch the thing. A/Cs cycle so you'll have weird pockets of heat interjected with the frigid air |
