No flame, I went to a small one once and there was a TURD reenactor.
I bet if I google I can find him. Was hilarious.

Went to these all the time with my dad when I was growing up. He was a bit of a history buff boomer.
The reenactors were great. All had full period costumes and rifles. Some had horses and sabres. Sometimes that battle would be choreographed and narrated.
Sometimes reenactors from other wars would set up on the periphery. One time there was a WWI area that I was wandering around and there was a grenade in a tent that I picked up. One of the boomer reenactors nearby said "Careful, that's live." 35 years later, I'm not sure if he was joking. It was heavy.
A huge portion of the reenactors looked and carried themselves like Robert E Lee, so I still have the mental image of the average Civil War soldier as a partly 50 year old with a gray beard.
