bonds yields are on the rise. eventually they start crowding out equities. also it makes loans more expensive which slows down the economy. and it makes the government's debt burden higher which theoretically should lead to austerity but never really does.

In a world where governments all over the planet are living on debt, the fact that their costs of borrowing money are greatly increasing means they can spend a lot less on things that help the economy. Japan is probably hit harder by this than anyone, followed by the US.

Plus, risk assets like stocks become less attractive the higher your guaranteed returns from bonds are.

I think they got used to a certain standard of living during the boom years when it looked like Japan would take over the world economy and decided to use debt to maintain as much of it as possible.

Tariffs/Trade wars will ignite inflation-- thereby making bonds a bad bet in the future, so sell sell sell your US treasuries (exit all positions)

Look at that chart- an 8.63% increase in Japanese 30-year bond yields. In a country with the highest debt-to-GDP ratio in the world.

Japan is a canary in the coal mine about the limits of debt. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

is there a point where the central bank admits it's all fake and completely monetizes the debt? but i guess that would destroy their currency abroad and they do a ton of exports.
