Nah - baseball was just a better product then.
1. Players played much longer and stayed on the same team. It's just a much more compelling sport when you have mostly 13 year veterans vs now when its all team-controlled 23 year olds.
2. Better storylines. Red Sox and Cubs had historic curses. Yankees were the evil empire. Braves dynasty on TBS.
3. World Series still mattered. People would still watch Sunday Night Baseball. Now baseball is entirely regional and no one watches the World Series. In the 90s watching baseball was taking part of the culture, in 2026 its a niche hobby.

Sportscenter sucking shit is also a big part of it. I hardly ever actually watched a full game as a kid but knew who almost every player in the league was. now I can name like maybe 10.
