Date: May 1st, 2026 1:36 AM Author: which is what makes time travel possible I absolutely agree. there's a specific part of the brain that actually works a lot like an LLM: the cerebellum. it's very small, very fast, and very "verbose" in storing raw statistical patterns (which is why it has 3x as many neurons as the rest of the brain put together even though each individual cell does much less). its purpose is to quickly come up with some kind of expedient action you can execute to put the world in a probably-useful state while your slower processes collect themselves to truly apprehend things.
I suspect that it does indeed register the world in such a way that discrete state is more relevant i.e. as something like a giant syllogism, something either deterministic or pseudorandom. however unlike a computer, not every process in the universe HAS a well-defined state at all: some systems can only be analyzed in terms of modes, because the microscopic state is never usefully knowable. that's what makes life different from conway's game of life (which is just a turing machine that doesn't halt). |
