they all learn it in school actually, i think under jokowi they made it mandatory. oh now they have made it mandatory:
MP (junior high) and SMA/SMK (senior high): English has long been part of Indonesia's national curriculum. The government says English has been formally taught in the national curriculum at these levels since independence. SD (primary school): English was not consistently mandatory nationally. Under the 2013 Curriculum, English was removed from the core SD curriculum and could instead be offered as local content depending on the school. Under the later Kurikulum Merdeka, it was still an optional subject at SD. Starting in the 2027/28 school year: Indonesia is making English compulsory at SD/MI nationwide. This transition was established through the 2024 curriculum regulation and its 2025 amendment. |
