Date: August 14th, 2026 8:51 AM Author: wangfei japan has spent 2 months defending its currency by buying its own yen with little success. typically japan would sell USTs, but agreed to US on joint intervention - japan instead drained its US cash reserves, US sold its euro reserves to buy yen, trying to push yen up. US does not want japanese UST sale because it would crash US bond market. US also created a repo facility which allows japan to borrow US dollars based on japan UST holdings, this is the important part - this is effectively QE albeit the money is going to japan, but it is printer goes brrr.
